Kinow Live video streaming functionality allows to ingest, transcode, and broadcast a Live video stream following two different use cases:
- Temporary session: Live streaming over a limited period of time for a special event (show, private screening, sport event...)
- Permanent session: 24/7 Live streaming (linear TV channel for example)
> Temporary Live creation
A temporary Live session can be created on the "Media management > Live streams" section of the administration pannel:
You then need to specify a name for the Live event (internal use only) and click on the "Start live" button:
The encoding presets configuration can be performed on the "Media management > Media sources" section:
The channel creation process can take few minutes to be perfomed. A "loading" icon will be displayed during the process.
Once the channel is available, the "loading" icon is transformed into a "Live" icon, and a stream key becomes available:
> Important information
- Encoding credits:
- Your encoding credits are consumed the same way than they are for a VOD asset transcoding operation.
- Your encoding credits are consumed the same way than they are for a VOD asset transcoding operation.
- Usage limitations:
- A temporary Live streaming session can be ran for a maximum time of 6 hours : after that time, the live stream will be automatically shut down.
- A temporary Live streaming session without any stream ingested (no data received on the channel) will be automatically shut down after 10min.
- These two limitations are the default protection settings set up on the platform. They can be either modified or deleted if needed.
- Live & DRMs :
- The Live functionality does not support the Clearkey AES 128 DRM.
- The Live functionality supports the Hollywood grade DRMs (PlayReady, Widevine, FairPlay).
> Permanent Live creation
The creation of a permanent Live channel needs the souscription of a Kinow dedicated service.
Please contact your Acoount Manager for more details about it.

>Live stream ingestion
To ingest a live stream on your endpoint, you only need the two following information:
- Stream URL (rtmp)
- Stream key
Here is a configuration example using OBS Studio software:
After a video stream has been ingested on the endpoint, you can find its related information by clicking on the "+" symbol of the channel details:
A "REC" icon is here to symbolize the ingestion process:
Multiples video streams can be ingested the one after the other on the same channel.
Example of use case: diffusion of a movie followed by a Q&A session
> Presentation of the Live streaming sessions to the end users
A Live streaming session is displayed on the user interface exactly the same way than a VOD asset: through a product and a video element.
To associate a video to a Live stream, you only need to select the "Kinow Live" video source and then your channel:
> Live2VOD
Every video stream ingested on the channel can be transformed into a VOD asset. To do so, you only need to wait until the Live stream is over (Status = "OFF") and then click on the "Live to VOD" button on the right.
Once the operation is over, the VOD asset will be available in the video files browser:
